The Ultimate Guide to Catamaran Hire in the US Virgin Islands

    Published on

The US Virgin Islands, which are in the Caribbean and are known for their sun, sea, and leisure, is the ideal vacation spot for everyone. Over two million people visit Saint Croix, Saint Thomas, and Saint John, the three major islands, each year.

However, the vast majority of them are missing out by following the crowd and failing to maximize their once-in-a-lifetime vacation. Want to stand out from the crowd? Like controlling your own course of action? If so, continue reading to learn all there is to know about sailing a catamaran around the US Virgin Islands (USVI).

    Why Catamaran?

The USVI, which includes 50 additional smaller islands and cays, is made up of three major islands in addition to those mentioned above. You may fly into Saint Thomas from the US or other countries, but not into the smaller, treasure-filled islands.

They can only be reached by boat, and a catamaran is your best bet. Despite being slower than a yacht, they are the best type of boat for traveling the USVI. The closest thing to a hotel on the water is a catamaran, which is steady, roomy, and peaceful.

    Chartering a Catamaran

Those three words will instantly cause alarm bells to go off in your head since they make one word stand out above all others: costly! Contrary to what one might assume from common sense, renting a yacht or taking a catamaran trip through the US Virgin Islands is not insurmountably expensive.

Often referred to as the “AirBnB of boats,” Borrow a Boat is an online marketplace where you can book a catamaran year-round for groups of any size, with or without a captain. You can get a top-of-the-line vessel for thousands of dollars.

Or, for less than a hotel for the family and a few day trips, you can get a Catamaran that is absolutely adequate and comfortable.

    USVI Catamaran Itinerary

What do you do now that you’ve made up your mind to sail across the USVI after being persuaded by the appeal of a catamaran charter? Now that you have that out of the way, it’s time to start planning your itinerary and your activities for the trip.

Listed below are some ideas for things to do and locations to see while on vacation. However, don’t blindly accept our advice; instead, conduct your own study and identify the locations and attractions you want to see.

Keep in mind that a catamaran vacation has no predetermined itinerary; go at your own pace since you are largely in charge. I’ll give you a few ideas to get you going:

    Flying into Saint Thomas

Unfortunately, it’s not quite as easy as renting a catamaran, having it pick you up at your local body of water, and sailing off to the US Virgin Islands. You must use the Cyril E. King airport to travel to Saint Thomas.

From there, we advise staying in a hotel for a couple of days, so you have time to adjust to the heat and see the area’s attractions. On Saint Thomas, there are several activities available inland, from relaxing afternoons spent sipping cocktails and taking in the scenery at Paradise Point to heart-pumping activities like the Tree Limin Extreme Zipline.

When you’re prepared to sail the seven seas, go to the marina to meet your skipper and request that he take you to…

    Druif Bay and Christmas Cove

People flock to the Caribbean to take advantage of its breathtaking white beaches, turquoise waters, and relentless sun. A journey to either of these two locations will allow you to experience all of that and more.

Spend your days relaxing on your catamaran’s deck, feeling the sand between your toes at the beach, and snorkeling in the ocean while keeping an eye out for turtles. Position your catamaran for a spectacular sunset over the calm waters in the late evening.

    Coral Bay and Leinster Bay

More beautiful beaches and marine life, including pods of dolphins at Leinster Bay, may be found in these areas. Learning more about the islands, their history, and their distinctive cultures is the main goal of visits to these two locations.

Fortsberg, an 18th-century fort located not far from Coral Bay, provides insight into life during the period when Denmark governed the islands. The best spot to learn about the troubled and frequently murderous history of the islands is at the Annaberg Sugar Plantation Ruins near Leinster Bay.

    Trunk Bay

Exploration—be it underwater or on land—is the main focus of a visit to Trunk Bay, which is less well known. For those of you who love the deep blue, there are approximately 650 feet of specially constructed snorkeling pathways that you will enjoy exploring.

While the group members who like the land can breathe deeply and hike some of the stunning inland island routes.

    In Summary

Unquestionably, one of the greatest ways to experience everything the USVI has to offer is to charter a catamaran, which is also customizable. Love to snorkel? Set out for the turtle habitats and the reefs.

Want to know more about the US Virgin Islands’ past? Ask your skipper to take you to the islands’ most important historical and cultural sites.

Although the expression “vacation of a lifetime” is often overused, it may not be appropriate in this situation.
